BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Former New York Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson is back in baseball. The Oakland Athletics have hired Alderson as a senior adviser to baseball operations, the team announced on Tuesday.
Alderson took a leave of absence from the Mets in late June due to cancer returning, but Alderson announced Saturday, he’s been cancer-free for four months.
Alderson said he did not deserve to return to the Mets because of the team’s poor record. He rejoins the Athletics where he spent 17 seasons working with the club in various capacities.
