Binghamton softball sweeps America East weekly awards

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — For the second team in program-history, the Binghamton softball team has swept the America East weekly awards, the conference announced on Tuesday. Sophomore shortstop Makayla Alvarez has been named America East Player of the Week. Alvarez hit .455 with two home runs in California. Junior Rayn Gibson earned Pitcher of the Week honors, recording a victory and a save and freshman second baseman Marissa Braito is the Rookie of the Week after scoring four times and knocking in two runs for the Bearcats.

Binghamton went 3-1 in the CSUN Early Bird Classic in California.

The Bearcats are back in action on Friday, March 1 in Clearwater, Florida when they face Troy University and the University of Iowa in a doubleheader.
