BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Section IV athletes continued to sign their National Letters of Intent on Thursday, making their college decision official. At Seton Catholic, it was Marina Maerkl’s turn. The Seton Catholic senior signed her letter of intent to continue her basketball career at D-II Daemen College.
Maerkl was a key part of Seton Catholic’s 2017 state championship team and has helped the Saints win a Section IV title every year she’s been on the team. Maerkl chose Daemen College over schools like Albany and Manhattan because Daemen College head coach Jenepher Banker made a pitch she couldn’t refuse.
“When I went on my unofficial visit, I talked to Coach Banker and she felt really passionate about the way I played,” said Seton Catholic senior forward Marina Maerkl. “So, I was having a discussion with her and she basically put it to this, she goes, ‘You’re my number one recruit. I want you and I’m willing to give everything for you to come here.'”
Maerkl plans on following in her coach at Seton Catholic Colleen Jayne’s footsteps and major in physical therapy at Daemen.
