VESTAL (WBNG) — Vestal’s Dan Mansfield and Luke Barney, best friends since Mansfield came to Vestal in eighth grade, inked their National Letters of Intent together on Wednesday.
“Ever since I moved (to Vestal) in eighth grade Luke has been my best buddy,” said Vestal senior Dan Mansfield. “We had this planned out that we wanted to do it together before we even committed somewhere.”
“Dan moved up here in eighth grade and immediately in gym class he said, ‘How are you?’ said Vestal senior Luke Barney. “And we became best friends.”
Mansfield is headed to Binghamton University to continue his soccer career. He helped the Vestal boy’s soccer team capture the state championship in 2017 and scored 45 goals in his high school.
“Binghamton was everything I wanted in a college,” said Mansfield. “The location, so all my family can come and watch my games, and the coaching staff is awesome.”
Barney will continue his golf career at Le Moyne. He led the Vestal golf team to three Section IV championships.
“When I went up to campus, the environment there is awesome,” said Barney. “People are nice. Coach is great and they have the academic program that I want. Just a good fit overall.”
