BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The New York Mets introduced second baseman Robinson Cano and relief pitcher Edwin Diaz as the newest members of the Mets on Tuesday. Cano and Diaz were acquired through a trade with the Seattle Mariners.

New York Mets COO Jeff Wilpon said the team moved so quickly on the deal because they thought the Mariners would trade Diaz to the Philadelphia Phillies if they did waited.

Wilpon also said the trade elevates the Mets’ analytics team’s projection of their wins into the high 80s.
