BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Jon Jones went face-to-face with Anthony Smith at the UFC 235 press conference on Thursday evening in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jones will defend his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against Smith on March 2 at UFC 235 in Las Vegas. The fight comes about two months after Jones recaptured the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship on December 29, 2018 at UFC 232 against Alexander Gustafsson.
Putting the short turnaround into perspective, there’s been more than a year between each of Jones’ previous four fights.
Jones vs. Gustafsson – December 29, 2018
Cormier vs. Jones – July 29, 2017
Jones vs. Saint Preux – April 23, 2016
Jones vs. Cormier – January 3, 2015
Before that, there was seven months between title defenses against Gustafsson in September 2013 and Glover Teixeira in April 2014. Suspensions are the reason for Jones’ light schedule in recent years. He said after beating Gustafsson at the end of December, he’s ready to make up for lost time. Jones reiterated on Thursday, he’s ready to go again.
“I feel like right now, I’m at my absolute best,” Jones said Thursday at the UFC 235 press conference. “Fighting against (Alexander) Gustafsson just a few weeks ago and being able to piggyback off that win and go into another camp. Starting camp already in shape. Coaches, the vibe amongst the team already strong. I feel great.”
