BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — On a night where the offense couldn’t capitalize, the Rumble Ponies fell to the Fisher Cats, 4-1.

With Anthony Kay on the mound, New Hampshire struck in the first inning on a Chad Spanberger RBI single. In the fourth inning, Kevin Smith would send one over the left-field wall to make it 2-0. Kay’s night would come to an end in the fifth after giving up back-to-back RBI doubles.

The Rumble Ponies had their best chance in the third inning. Braxton Lee led off with a single, but aggressive base running would backfire as he was caught stealing second. Sam Haggerty would also get on base with a single, but the Fisher Cats would catch him attempting to steal third base.

The Rumble Ponies only run on the night came from Andres Gimenez in the ninth inning. The shortstop hit a two-out RBI single to plate Haggerty, helping Binghamton avoid the shutout loss.

The Ponies had nine hits and walked five times, but stranded 11 batters. Fisher Cats starter Hector Perez struck out 7 across five scoreless innings.

Final score:

Rumble Ponies – 1 (4-3), Fisher Cats – 4 (5-7)

The Rumble Ponies will host the Fisher Cats for the series finale Wednesday at 6:35 p.m., before hitting the road Thursday.
