BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — In the final game of the series, the Rumble Ponies dropped the rubber game to New Hampshire Wednesday, falling 10-4.
Costly errors in the third inning gave the Fisher Cats the early lead. Back-to-back errors by third baseman Sam Haggerty and first baseman Jason Krizan would put the Ponies in the 2-0 hole. Immediately following the errors, starting pitcher David Peterson gave up a 2-run single to New Hampshire’s Santiago Espinal, as the Fisher Cats took the 4-0 lead.
The Rumble Ponies would claw right back. In the bottom half, Andres Gimenez plated Haggerty with an RBI double. In the fourth with two outs, Kevin Kaczmarski would drive home Arismendy Alcantara. Braxton Lee would follow suit with a two-run double, to tie the game at 4.
Defense would be the downfall tonight. In the 6th inning, a passed ball by catcher Patrick Mazeika would give the Fisher Cats the go-ahead run, and they would never look back. Espinal hit a grand slam in the 8th inning off reliever Matt Blackham, as New Hampshire took the series.
Rumble Ponies – 4 (4-4), Fisher Cats – 10 (6-7)
The Rumble Ponies open a new series Thursday night in Erie. They then travel to Akron, Ohio, and return home Thursday, April 25th to begin a homestand against the Portland Seadogs.
