Long ball powers Ponies past SeaWolves

ERIE (WBNG) — On Thursday night, the Rumble Ponies struck early and often, opening a series against the SeaWolves with a 7-5 win.

In the first inning, Sam Haggerty led off with a solo home run, followed by a two-run shot by Will Toffey.

After the SeaWolves got on the board in the bottom half, Braxton Lee and Andres Gimenez added a pair of solo home runs to put the Ponies up 4-1.

After pitcher Harol Gonzalez gave up two solo home runs in the fourth, Dario Pizzano delivered some insurance runs in the fifth with a two-out, two-run single. Gonzalez would go on to retire seven of the final eight batters he faced, earning his first Double-A victory. He would toss six innings, giving up three run son four hits, striking out eight.

Gimenez would go 3-4 with a home run and two doubles, while Haggerty went 3-5, recording his fifth multiple-hit game of the season.
