AKRON (WBNG) — Anthony Kay’s strong night on the mound would be capped off by an offensive explosion, as the Rumble Ponies opened a series against the Akron RubberDucks with a 16-3 win.
Kay would toss 6 innings, striking out 10 batters and giving up just 1 hit and no runs. He would retire the first ten batters he faced, earning his first Double-A victory.
The offense broke through in what was a 4-run fourth inning. Andres Gimenez highlighted the frame, with a three-run double to make the score 5-0. Gimenez extended his hitting streak to six games.
The Ponies piled it on in the sixth inning, plating five runs. Braxton Lee, Will Toffey, and Ali Sanchez each picked up 2 RBI in the inning.
The Rumble Ponies compiled 17 hits on the night, setting season highs with runs and hits. They have now won four straight games.
