Mother misses BU doctorate graduation ceremony for sons’ baseball games

VESTAL (WBNG) — Rather than attend her doctorate graduation ceremony Friday at Binghamton University, Jennifer Wegmann made the trip to New Britain to watch her two sons — Nick and TJ — play baseball for the Bearcats.

"It is a no-brainer decision," said Jennifer Wegmann. "There’s no place I’d rather be [Friday] than watching the two of them play. And I honestly don’t think [Nick] or TJ would expect anything less from me."

Thursday night on 12 News at 11, Nick and TJ Wegmann were featured as 12 Sports’ Athletes of the Week.

Jennifer Wegmann is a health and wellness lecturer in the Decker School of Nursing. She will receive her doctorate in community research and action for her dissertation: “The Moderating Effects of Stress Mindset on Well-Being.”

"For her, watching us is — even though she’s worked so hard to get all that [doctorate] stuff done, and I know we’re so proud of what she’s been able to do — but I think for her, being able to see us play together is more gratifying than getting her piece of paper on Friday," Nick said.

The Binghamton baseball team split Friday’s doubleheader at Central Connecticut State University. The Bearcats won the first game, 2-0, before falling in the second game, 5-4.
