Forecast Discussion:

Temperatures will begin to rise overnight and will likely eclipse 50 by daybreak. The rain could be heavy overnight. Rainfall overnight should range from 0.25” to 0.75” with a few spots possibly close to 1″, especially south and southeast.

Friday will be warm and wet at times. We do not anticipate an all-day rainfall. Highs will likely break the record for December 21. The record high for the date is 53; this could very well be surpassed by 8am. Rainfall Friday will range from 0.10-0.75”. Rivers and streams will rise significantly Friday and likely peak Saturday evening. MAJOR river flooding is NOT expected. A few spots could reach MINOR flood stage. Rainfall will change to snow showers from west to east overnight Friday and temperatures will drop sharply as a cold front moves through. Total rainfall should range from 0.75-1.50” with 2-3” possible in the Catskills and Poconos. Saturday morning lows drop to around 32 so there could be some icy spots Saturday as standing water is subject to freezing temperatures.

The storm moves away Saturday but the chance of snow showers remains through Saturday morning. Highs will be in the mid 30s with lows in the mid 20s. It will be windy, too. Sunday looks dry with highs around freezing. Christmas Eve may bring a clipper system that could reinvigorate our chance at a White Christmas with a perhaps a light, fresh coating of snow. Uncertainty is high with this system, so we are definitely not proclaiming a white Christmas just yet. Highs Christmas Day, under clouds and sun will be in the low 30s. Wednesday looks seasonable with highs around 31.
