Forecast Discussion:
A complex storm will move into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Tuesday. Cold air in place ahead of the storm allows for the precipitation to start as snow. The snow will arrive SW to NE after 4am. The snow will be heavy at times through the late morning hours before wintry mix precipitation arrives in the same direction. Overnight lows will be in the teens to low 20s. Accumulations by 7am will range from nothing well northeast to perhaps 1-2” near and southwest of Binghamton.

Snow, possibly heavy at times, continues through the late morning before the sleet and possibly freezing rain moves into the area. Roads will become snow-covered quickly given how cold it has been and with the expected intensity of the snowfall. The morning drive could be slow and slick in parts of the area. By the afternoon drive, roads could still be slick and snow-covered. We expect sleet to develop and fall on top of the snow. Some freezing rain is also possible after midday, especially over the higher terrain. The cold air could be deep enough at the surface to keep the valleys mainly sleet. This needs to be monitored. Highs will be late in the day, in the upper 20s to near 32. Mixed precipitation changes to a chance of rain overnight with temperatures slowly increasing toward Wednesday AM.

Wednesday will be windy with a chance of snow showers on the backside of the departing storm. Highs will be in the low to mid 30s with gusts 30-40mph possible.

Thursday looks quiet before a storm moves in Friday and brings milder weather and some rain. Highs Thursday will be in the upper 30s and Friday will be in the low 40s.

Next weekend looks tranquil right now with a slight chance of snow showers Saturday and clouds and sun Sunday. Highs will be in the low 30s.
